Call for Paper:Hybrid AC/DC Transmission Grids
发布时间:2019年05月17日 08:35    编辑:    点击:[]

HVDC transmission technology has brought many advantages to power transmission. Examples are increased flexibility in operation, expanded power transfer capability and easier interconnection of energy sources. However, HVDC links need to be built along with the existing AC transmission grids. It has become increasingly evident that the future power transmission systems will become interwoven networks of AC and DC subsystems, i.e, hybrid AC/DC transmission grids.

The AC and DC grids have their own characteristics. An AC grid tends to have a large inertia and well-understood responses to disturbances. A DC grid generally has a low tolerance to fault and can respond very fast. When the two grids are interconnected, a lot more complex dynamic and transient interactions can occur. A single AC system fault, for example, may lead to simultaneous commutation failures in multiple converter stations. New phenomenon such as super-synchronous resonance can also emerge and their mechanisms have not been fully understood. All these characteristics present new challenges to the planning, design and operation of future power transmission systems.
In view of this major trend in the evolution of power transmission systems, the IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery and IEEE Transactions on Power Systems have decided to publish a joint special section on the subject, with the objective to promote research, innovation and exchange in the broad field of hybrid AC/DC transmission grids. This Call for Paper invite the submission of original research and/or review works from both power delivery and power system perspectives. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

?Methodologies for planning and operating hybrid AC/DC grids;
?Modelling and analysis of electromechanical dynamics in hybrid AC/DC grids;
?Techniques for monitoring and control of dynamic and transient stability of hybrid grids;
?Modelling and analysis of electromagnetic interactions in hybrid AC/DC grids;
?Techniques for detection and mitigation of (subsynchronous, supersynchronous, harmonic and high frequency) resonance and inter-converter oscillations;
?Innovations on the protection of hybrid grids including AC and DC fault ride-through techniques;
?High power converter topologies, design, protection and control as well as HIL evaluations and grid level integration of different converter technologies (LCC and VSC);
?Advances in power apparatuses enabling AC/DC grids (e.g., HVDC circuit breakers);
?Advanced synchronization schemes for enhancing dynamics response and stability;
?Techniques and apparatus to enhance inertia response of hybrid AC/DC grids (such as virtual inertia support and augmentation of different types of energy storage systems);
?Blackout restoration for hybrid AC/DC grids;
?Dynamic interactions of a hybrid grid with various energy sources;
?Cyber-security for hybrid AC/DC grids (e.g., identifying new security threats at converter and system levels, attacks and mitigation techniques).

ABOUT JOINT SPECIAL SECTION
A unique feature of hybrid AC/DC grid is the strong coupling between apparatus level behaviours with system wide responses. This Special Section, therefore, welcomes the submission of original works from both power delivery and power system perspectives. After receiving an abstract, the guest EIC and editorial board will determine which Transaction is a better fit for the work. Authors then submit full papers to the designated transaction. When the special section is published, a review and summary of all accepted papers will be published in both transactions along with their respective papers. Thus all papers can be easily accessed by PWRD as well as PWRS communities.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINE
This Special Section solicits original research and review work that is not under consideration for publication in other venues. Please submit an extended abstract of 500-1000 words to Prof. Mohamed Shawky El Moursi (
mohamed.elmoursi@ku.ac.ae) with the subject of “Special section on Hybrid AC/DC Transmission Grids-TPWRD&TPWRS”. The abstract should describe the main idea of the paper and explain the novelty and technical contributions. The submitted abstract must include the list of all co-authors, and identify the corresponding author and his affiliation for the purpose of future communications. The abstracts will be evaluated by the guest editorial board. Based on the potential contribution of the work and it suitability for this special issue, the authors will be invited to submit full papers to either T-PWRD or T-PWRS.
